24.2.2026 | The Finnish Government discussed recommendations, decisions and conclusions issued to Finland by international human rights monitoring bodies. Based on the discussion, the state secretaries of the parties in Government decided on further measures related to the recommendations. This was the second discussion held as part of the implementation of the Government’s equality statement.

10.1.2025 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications is requesting opinions on an assessment memorandum regarding regulatory and implementation options for a system to respond to location study requests. Opinions may be submitted until 24 January 2025.

30.9.2024 | The PISA 2022 results show that there are still major disparities in performance between immigrant and non-immigrant students in all domains of assessment. Underperformance of students with an immigrant background is often explained by weak reading performance and lower socio-economic status.

18.6.2024 | The results of the OECD's Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2022 Creative Thinking assessment were published on 18 June 2024. 19.11.2024 | The expected recovery of the employment rate will be delayed by the labour market downturn in autumn 2024. Long-term unemployment is projected to increase until 2026.

29.5.2020 | In accordance with the relevant government resolution, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has drawn up a report on the use of face coverings to prevent coronavirus (COVID-19) infections. The report has now been published and submitted to the Government.

5.12.2023 | Findings of the OECD’s PISA 2022 (Programme for International Student Assessment) show that while the performance of Finnish young people has deteriorated, it remains above the OECD average. PISA 2022 focused on mathematical literacy.

17.12.2021 | The Social Security Committee has identified the main problem areas of the current social security system and issues now 18 positions for reforming the system.

9.2.2023 | Finland has around 50,500 civil defence shelters with space for about 4.8 million people. Finland has a sufficient number of places in shelters. Civil defence shelters are located in large cities in particular. The highest number of places in civil defence shelters in relation to the population can be found in the Greater Helsinki area and Pirkanmaa. This is evident in the preliminary data of the Ministry of the Interior’s report.

13.6.2022 | Of all state-owned companies, 90 per cent have sustainability objectives in their remuneration programmes. According to a survey conducted by the Ownership Steering Department at the Prime Minister’s Office, corporate sustainability incentives account for about one quarter of the total remuneration paid by companies. The most common sustainability incentives were related to emissions reductions and job satisfaction among the personnel.

9.2.2022 | In autumn 2021 and at the start of 2022, Finnish ministers toured Finland to listen to people’s ideas and hopes for the future of Europe. The discussions highlighted a variety of concrete issues where citizens consider EU cooperation to bring added value and where they wanted to see action from the EU. The EU is widely seen as valuable both as a significant economic operator and as a community of values and security.

3.12.2019 | The focus in the OECD’s PISA 2018 (Programme for International Student Assessment) was on reading literacy. The survey, held every three years, again ranked Finnish 15-year-olds among top performers in reading literacy in OECD countries. Compared with 2015, Finnish students’ mathematical literacy also remained unchanged, but performance in science literacy declined.

20.12.2021 | On 17 December 2021, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment decided to grant investment aid to four major renewable energy demonstration projects. The total amount of aid granted was EUR 64.12 million.

18.1.2022 | On Tuesday 18 January, the Government held an extensive discussion on the need to update the COVID-19 strategy in response to changes in the situation caused by the rapidly spreading Omicron variant. The discussions were based on expert assessments the Government received on the epidemiological situation and the burden on medical care in the coming weeks, and on views about the need to amend the current operating strategy.

7.7.2020 | A recent follow-up report stresses that the shared goals presented in the 2030 Agenda are an important tool when the world is addressing the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis. Sustainable development is the theme of an ongoing high-level UN meeting.

24.2.2026 | Regeringen har behandlat rekommendationer, avgöranden och slutsatser om tillgodoseendet av de mänskliga rättigheterna som internationella människorättsövervakningsorgan gett Finland. Efter regeringens behandling fastställde regeringspartiernas statssekreterare närmare åtgärder med anledning av rekommendationerna. Det var den andra gången som rekommendationer om de mänskliga rättigheterna behandlades som ett led i genomförandet av statsrådets meddelande om likabehandling.
