4.4.2025 | The 2025 county elections and municipal elections will be held simultaneously, but they are two separate elections. The Ministry of Justice has published communication materials providing examples that will help voters know what to do when they go to a polling station. 

25.3.2024 | The voting day for the European elections in Finland is Sunday 9 June 2024. Abroad, advance voting will be conducted between 29 May and 1 June 2024, but many of the advance polling stations abroad are open for a shorter period than this.

29.1.2024 | The election day for a second election (second round) will be 11 February 2024, and advance voting abroad will be from 31 January to 3 February 2024.

15.1.2024 | Advance voting in the 2024 presidential election will be conducted from 17 to 23 January 2024 in Finland and from 17 to 20 January 2024 abroad. The election day is Sunday 28 January 2024. 

20.1.2023 | Finland will hold its parliamentary elections on Sunday 2 April 2023. Advance voting will be possible abroad from 22 to 25 March 2023. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs is responsible for organising advance voting abroad.

24.1.2024 | According to preliminary data, 1 882 670 votes were cast in advance in the 2024 presidential election. This means that 44 per cent of eligible voters residing in Finland voted in advance.

30.1.2024 | A second round will be conducted in the presidential election as none of the candidates received more than half of the votes in the first round. The candidates in the second round are Alexander Stubb representing the National Coalition Party with candidate number 8 and Pekka Haavisto representing a constituency association with candidate number 10. The candidate numbers are the same as in the first round. 

5.1.2022 | The advance voting period for the county elections is from 12 to 18 January 2022 in Finland and from 12 to 15 January 2022 abroad. Election day is Sunday 23 January 2022.

11.1.2022 | The elections website of the Ministry of Justice, Electionsfinland.fi, contains instructions for voters on safe voting in the county elections during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ministry has prepared the instructions in cooperation with the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare.

24.11.2021 | County elections will be held in Finland on Sunday 23 January 2022. The advance voting period is from 12 to 18 January 2022 in Finland and from 12 to 15 January 2022 abroad. The advance polling stations abroad will be located in Finland's diplomatic and consular missions or their offices in 71 different countries. A total of 97 advance polling stations will be open abroad.

7.2.2024 | According to preliminary data, 1 956 529 votes were cast in advance in the second round of the 2024 presidential election. This means that almost 46 per cent of eligible voters residing in Finland voted in advance.

25.1.2024 | A total of 58,757 persons cast their vote in advance in the presidential election at Finland’s missions abroad. The number of crew members who voted on board Finnish vessels was 223.

15.3.2024 | On 15 March, the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the Governments of the Member States (Coreper) discussed the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive. The amended proposal for a Directive received a qualified majority of votes of the Member States in Coreper. The matter was previously discussed on 28 February. The European Parliament must now approve the content of the Directive.

26.1.2024 | Preliminary results of the vote count in the presidential election to be conducted on Sunday 28 January will be published in the Result Service of the Ministry of Justice starting at 20.00 on election day. 

28.2.2024 | Today, the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the Governments of the Member States (Coreper) discussed the due diligence obligations of companies concerning corporate social responsibility, i.e. the EU Directive on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence. Despite Finland’s constructive influence, the proposed Directive failed to receive a qualified majority of votes in Coreper.

27.1.2021 | The municipal elections will be held on Sunday 13 June 2021. The Act on the Postponement of the 2021 Municipal Elections entered into force on 29 March 2021. The advance voting period will be from 26 May to 8 June in Finland and from 2 to 5 June abroad.

9.2.2024 | In the second round of the presidential election, a total of 62,294 people cast their vote in advance at Finland’s missions abroad. Altogether 220 crew members voted on board Finnish vessels.

11.1.2023 | Text messages reminding young people to vote increased their voter turnout in the county elections held in January 2022. This is according to a pilot study carried out by the Ministry of Justice, the behavioural science working group at the Prime Minister’s Office and the University of Turku in connection with the elections.
