5.4.2024 | Finland will have a prominent role in the programme session on water disputes and mediation in World Water Week in Stockholm on 25–29 August. Finland is for the first time a key collaborating partner of the event. World Water Week’s programme offers meeting opportunities for both water experts and members of the public interested in the root causes of and solutions to water disputes. Several sessions can also be followed remotely.

19.2.2025 | The parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity will convene in Rome, Italy on 25–27 February 2025. The COP16.2 session will continue the negotiations on items that remained open in Cali, Colombia in November. The aim is to reach an agreement on the monitoring, evaluation and financing of the global biodiversity targets. Finland’s delegation will be led by Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala.

20.8.2024 | In October 2023, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment appointed a working group to examine ways to improve Finland’s competitive position in offshore wind power production compared with other Baltic Sea countries and to promote other targets on offshore wind power set out in the Government Programme. The proposals included in the report published by the working group on 20 August 2024 form an action plan for the promotion of offshore wind power.

21.6.2022 | The annual meeting of the European Goose Management International Working Group under the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds AEWA will be held in Helsinki on 21–23 June 2022. AEWA and its Individual Species Working Groups (ISWG) are important for Finland in terms of the protection and sustainable exploitation of the migratory aquatic and shore birds found in Finland.

19.1.2023 | Zambia’s current administration is renewing the country’s political operating culture and trying to solve the economic problems inherited from the previous administration. The focus of the cooperation between Finland and Zambia has shifted towards stronger trade relations, according to Finland’s Ambassador to Zambia Saana Halinen.

26.1.2023 | The Central Asian countries are rich in extractives and renewable energy sources. Sustainable and responsible use of these resources is one of the key factors determining the future of these countries, according to Ilkka Räisänen, Finland’s Roving Ambassador for Central Asia.

27.5.2021 | On May 27th 2021 the Government adopted a resolution on the Helmi habitats programme that extends until 2030. The programme includes 40 actions for accelerating the restoration, management and protection of different habitats. The Helmi programme is a significant package of measures for halting biodiversity loss in Finland.

29.12.2022 | On 29 December 2022, the Government granted research permits for offshore wind projects in four open sea areas in Finland’s exclusive economic zone. The permits were granted to Ilmatar Energy Oy for the research area “Voima” in the open sea area off the coast of Jakobstad and the research area “Norrskär” off the coast of Kaskinen. Eolus Finland Oy/Tuulia Offshore Ab and Wellamo Offshore Ab received permits for the research areas “Tuulia” and “Wellamo” in the Sea of Bothnia off the coast of Pori.
