23.5.2025 | The assessment plan of Strategic environmental assessment of authorities' plans and programmes (SEA) concerning potential offshore wind farms in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) has been circulated for comments. The assessment is based on the Act on the Assessment of the Effects of Certain Plans and Programmes on the Environment. The national consultation of the assessment is carried out in the Lausuntopalvelu.fi service.

As a result of the amendment to the Environmental Protection Act that entered into force at the beginning of 2023, the responsibility for monitoring and gathering information on hazardous shipwrecks has been assigned to the Finnish Environment Institute, which now coordinates the research carried out at Ilmarinen.

1.3.2022 | The national programme and environmental impact assessment of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste management were published on 1 March 2022. The programme was drawn up by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health together with the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority. The programme’s aim is to ensure that all spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste generated in Finland is managed safely and without undue delay.
