10.10.2025 | Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will visit Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia on 13–15 October. This is her first visit to the South Caucasus as the Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

13.11.2023 | EU foreign ministers will convene in Brussels on 13 November. Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will represent Finland at the meeting.

30.10.2025 | The world countries will convene at the Climate Change Conference COP30 in Belém, Brazil on 10–21 November. The countries are required to update their Nationally Determined Contributions every five years, and the next round of submissions is due just ahead the conference.

20.10.2023 | The EU foreign ministers will convene in Luxembourg on 23 October. Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will represent Finland at the meeting. After the Council meeting, the EU foreign ministers will meet with the foreign ministers of the Central Asian countries.

11.4.2025 | EU foreign ministers will convene in Luxembourg on 14 April. Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will represent Finland at the meeting.

4.11.2024 | The world states will convene at the Climate Change Conference COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan on 11–22 November. The aim is to decide on a new common climate finance target. A faster energy transition will be needed as the countries are preparing to set new emission reduction targets during next year.

5.11.2024 | In their meeting on Tuesday 5 November, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed the situation at the eastern border and in the sea area, held a preparatory discussion on the priorities of civilian and military intelligence for 2025 and discussed Finland’s objectives for the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29).

1.11.2024 | Minister of Climate and the Environment Kai Mykkänen stresses that, to reach the global targets, China must be more strongly involved in the environmental and climate work.

23.9.2024 | Cities and municipalities are in a key position in terms of reaching the climate targets, both in Finland and globally. Finland has joined the UN CHAMP initiative to support the climate work of cities and regions.

24.11.2024 | The UN Climate Change Conference COP29 reached an agreement on the new climate finance goal (New Collective Quantified Goal, NCQG) of USD 300 billion and a total NCQG of USD 1,300 billion. Decisions on the global monitoring framework for the process to phase out fossil fuels were left to the future climate conferences.

3.6.2024 | The UN climate change negotiations will continue in Bonn, Germany on 3-13 June. The negotiations among public officials will pave the way for decisions to be made at the Climate Change Conference in Baku concerning e.g. the finance target, and will continue the efforts to phase out fossil fuels.

15.3.2024 | At its meeting on 15 March, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs outlined Finland’s positions on the European Commission’s vision for the post-2030 transition towards climate neutrality by 2050. In addition, the Ministerial Committee outlined Finland’s positions on the development of the EU’s Action Plan on Military Mobility and the national action plan.

20.10.2023 | On 20 October, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs discussed the use of the EU Hybrid Toolbox, possible enlargement of the EU, and the Proposal for a Directive on Business in Europe: Framework for Income Taxation. The Ministerial Committee also outlined Finland's positions for the three forthcoming Council meetings.

13.12.2023 | UN Climate Conference COP28 has ended after having gone into overtime due to challenging negotiations. For the final text a historical agreement was reached concerning fossil fuels, but the chances to meet the 1.5 degree target seem quite fragile. The countries and especially the large economies should take urgent action to meet the target.

22.6.2023 | EU foreign ministers will convene in Luxembourg on 26 June. Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will represent Finland at the meeting.

27.10.2023 | The European Union will continue to provide strong military, financial, economic and diplomatic support and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. The EU leaders decided on the matter on the closing day of the European Council held in Brussels on 26–27 October. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo represented Finland at the meeting.

5.5.2022 | A Twinning project in Azerbaijan, led by Statistics Finland, focusing on Finnish data usage and statistical expertise, was very different from any previous Twinning projects. The project was launched remotely in June 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and it progressed despite the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the new virus variants. The closing event of the project on 11 April 2022 in Baku attracted enormous media attention.

20.1.2023 | EU foreign ministers will convene in Brussels on 23 January. Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto will represent Finland at the meeting.
