16.1.2026 | At the presidential session on 16 January, the President of the Republic appointed non-resident Ambassadors to Bolivia and to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

5.2.2026 | Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Elmedin Konaković will visit Helsinki on 6 February and meet Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen.

17.3.2025 | Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will visit Bosnia and Herzegovina from 17 to 18 March. This is her first visit to South-Eastern Europe as the Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The aim of the visit is to strengthen the OSCE’s partnership in the region.

15.7.2021 | On Thursday 15 July, the President of the Republic appointed a new ambassador to Copenhagen and non-resident ambassadors to Liechtenstein and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

18.12.2024 | The leaders of the EU Member States and the Western Balkans highlighted their close partnership at a summit on Wednesday 18 December in Brussels. The EU reiterated its commitment to the region and called for strong foreign and security policy cooperation from its Western Balkans partners. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo represented Finland at the summit.

22.11.2024 | In its meeting on Friday 22 November, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs discussed Finland’s positions on the European Commission's annual EU enlargement package.

15.12.2023 | On Thursday 14 December, the European Council decided to open negotiations on EU accession with Ukraine and Moldova. The Council also decided to grant candidate country status to Georgia. Negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina will begin once the necessary criteria are met. The EU leaders see enlargement as a geopolitical necessity in the current global situation.

13.12.2022 | In its meeting today, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs outlined Finland’s positions for the European Council on 15 December and the EU-ASEAN summit on 14 December, both of which will take place in Brussels. The Ministerial Committee was also briefed on the use of funds frozen as a result of sanctions against Russia to support the reconstruction of Ukraine.

1.12.2022 | Prime Minister Sanna Marin will attend the EU-Western Balkans summit in Tirana, the capital of Albania, on Tuesday 6 December. The meeting will discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between the EU and the Western Balkan countries while also taking into account the impacts of Russia’s war of aggression on the region.

12.12.2022 | The EU General Affairs Council (GAC) will meet in Brussels on Tuesday 13 December. Topics on the agenda will include preparations for the December European Council, transparency and targeting of political advertising, the Commission’s enlargement package and the annual rule of law dialogue. Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Tytti Tuppurainen will represent Finland at the meeting.

18.2.2022 | EU foreign ministers will convene in Brussels on 21 February. The main items on the meeting agenda are the European security situation, climate diplomacy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, preparation of the joint council of the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the EU cyber exercise. The ministers will also hold an informal exchange with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba. Under current affairs, the foreign ministers will briefly take stock of the situation in Mali.

13.3.2023 | The European Parliament has appointed Doctor of Social Sciences Pilvi Torsti as Director of the European Training Foundation (ETF). The appointment is significant for Finland. Pilvi Torsti will take up her new post on 16 April 2023.
