3.7.2023 | The Conference of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization FAO is currently meeting in Rome. Permanent Secretary Jaana Husu-Kallio delivered Finland’s statement at the Conference and met the re-elected Director-General Dongyu QU. Finland and FAO have close cooperation especially in forest and water issues.

11.3.2025 | The webinar series of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization FAO that started on Tuesday 11 March is part of a global initiative aimed to develop forest-based bioeconomy worldwide. At the opening of the series, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sari Essayah stressed the role of multilateral cooperation as we move towards sustainable forest-based bioeconomy.

24.11.2023 | Finland will grant EUR 3 million in additional support to improve food security in Ukraine. The funding will be used to support Ukrainian exports of grain to countries where food security is adversely affected by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Some of the funds will be used to help clear mines in rural Ukraine to restart agricultural production.

5.12.2023 | The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will organise two side events and act as a partner in several other events at the UN Climate Conference COP28 in Dubai. The programme themes are sustainable food systems, climate change adaptation and low-carbon construction.

24.7.2023 | The first stocktaking meeting of the UN Food Systems Summit held two years ago takes place in Rome on 24–26 July. Finland highlights its experiences as a frontrunner in providing school meals.

21.11.2022 | With respect to agriculture, the aim at the Climate Change Conference COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt was to complete the work under the Koronivia Joint Work in Agriculture launched in 2017 and to agree on the future of climate work on agriculture under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

29.11.2019 | The United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) will officially launch the International Year of Plant Health on 2 December 2019. The thematic year is being celebrated at the initiative of the Finnish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Over the course of the year, the aim will be to raise awareness among citizens, sector operators and decision-makers of the importance of plant health for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

10.6.2020 | The International Year of Plant Health 2020 (IYPH 2020), a UN observance initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Finland, was off to a promising start until the Covid-19 pandemic caused a major setback to all events. COVID-19 shows that the spreading of human, animal or plant viruses needs to be stopped.

5.8.2021 | Finland has sponsored the United Nations Junior Professional Officers (JPO) Programme since 1965, encouraging young Finnish nationals to work in UN agencies and international financial and research institutions.
