29.4.2026 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will represent Finland at the eighth summit of the European Political Community (EPC) to be held in the Armenian capital on Monday 4 May. The theme of the summit is Building the Future: Unity and Stability in Europe. Along with the heads of state or government of the countries involved in the EPC, representatives of EU institutions and the secretaries-general of NATO, the OSCE and the Council of Europe have been invited to the summit.

19.12.2025 | In a meeting that began on Thursday 18 December, the EU leaders reached an agreement on significant additional funding for Ukraine. In line with the agreement, the European Council will provide a EUR 90 billion loan to Ukraine for 2026 and 2027.

25.11.2025 | Finland does not meet the EU’s criteria for public deficit, according to the European Commission. The Commission is considering proposing that the EU open an excessive deficit procedure for Finland.

2.12.2025 | Finland has ranked 8th in the Gender Equality Index for the European Union (EU). The Index measured gender equality in various domains, such as work, health and power. The data for the most recent Index is mainly from 2023 and 2024.

27.1.2025 | The EU General Affairs Council (GAC) will meet on Tuesday 28 January in Brussels. In the meeting, the GAC will continue its annual rule of law dialogue with country-specific discussions on the rule of law situation in Hungary, Portugal, Romania and Slovenia. The Council will also discuss the priorities for Poland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU. Finland’s Permanent Representative to the European Union, Jori Arvonen, will represent Finland at the meeting.

4.5.2021 | Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto will meet Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó in Helsinki on Wednesday 5 May.

7.11.2024 | Heads of state or government from across Europe discussed international security challenges at the meeting of the European Political Community in Budapest, Hungary, on Thursday 7 November. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo represented Finland at the meeting. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy was also in attendance.

22.8.2024 | On Thursday 22 August, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs discussed Finland’s participation in informal ministerial meetings during the Hungarian EU Council Presidency, efforts to advance Finland’s EU policy priorities and two upcoming informal council meetings.

23.1.2025 | In its meeting on Thursday 23, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs outlined Finland’s positions for three council meetings and one informal ministerial meeting taking place next week.

18.11.2024 | Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Joakim Strand will visit Brussels on 18–19 November. The programme for his visit will include an event focusing on recruiting more Finns to EU institutions, a discussion event on protecting and strengthening European democracy and a meeting of the EU General Affairs Council.

31.1.2025 | Finland and the majority of the EU Member States have sent a joint letter calling on the European Investment Bank (EIB) to increase its financing for the European defence industry. The letter, drawn up at the initiative Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, is endorsed by France and Germany as well.

13.12.2021 | The EU General Affairs Council will meet in Brussels on 14 December. Minister for European Affairs Tytti Tuppurainen will represent Finland at the meeting.

8.11.2024 | In its informal meeting on 8 November in Budapest, Hungary, the European Council adopted a declaration highlighting the need to strengthen the EU’s economy and competitiveness. The leaders of the EU Member States also discussed EU-US relations and the situation in Georgia. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo represented Finland at the meeting.

6.11.2024 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will represent Finland at two meetings hosted by the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU in Budapest on 7–8 November. Leaders from across Europe will convene for the meeting of the European Political Community on Thursday, and the European Council will hold an informal meeting on Friday. The main themes on the agenda are European security and the EU’s competitiveness.

15.11.2024 | At its meeting on Friday 15 November, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs specified Finland’s positions on the revision of the Energy Taxation Directive. The Ministerial Committee also outlined Finland’s positions for next week’s council meetings.

5.7.2019 | Minister for European Affairs Tytti Tuppurainen will meet Judit Varga, Hungary's current State Secretary for EU Relations and incoming Minister of Justice in Helsinki on Monday 8 July. The Ministers will discuss, for example, Finland's Presidency of the Council of the EU and matters relating to the rule of law.

19.6.2024 | The EU ministers will meet at the Employment, Social Affairs, Health and Consumer Affairs Council in Luxembourg on 20 and 21 June 2024. The items of the ministers' agenda include the social dimension of the single market, the revision of pharmaceutical legislation, the health sector's role in crisis preparedness, and the possibility of adopting a Council Recommendation on vaccine-preventable cancers.

1.2.2024 | On Thursday 1 February, the EU heads of state and government decided on the mid-term revision of the multiannual financial framework and approved EUR 50 billion in support for Ukraine. The matter was agreed on unanimously by all 27 Member States at the special European Council in Brussels.
