  3. 7.5.2026 | Based on the 2025 hydrogen auction of its Innovation Fund, the European Commission has selected nine projects that will proceed to agreement negotiations.   4. 4.5.2026 | The Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) met in London from 27 April to 1 May 2026.   5. 7.4.2026 | The evaluation explored the objectives of the Climate Act and the means to achieve these from the perspectives of impact, cost-effectiveness and acceptability.   6. 12.1.2026 | In order to promote the capture of biogenic carbon dioxide, the Government has decided to grant investment aid totalling EUR 90 million for the construction of capture capacity. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has now launched a call for applications for the competitive bidding process for the investment aid. Applications can be submitted at Business Finland’s e-service portal no later than 31 March 2026.

  7. On 7.11.25, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment appointed a working group to consider solutions to problems related to low-priced imports. The task of the working group is to identify all the national and EU-level solutions that can be used to address the problems caused by low-priced imports. In addition to surveying the means, a proposal will be made on the primary follow-up measures.

  8. 4.7.2025 | The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has launched an extensive package of measures that aims to strengthen forest growth and carbon sinks on a long-term basis. The package is based on the Government Programme and it will contribute to the achievement of the climate targets. The measures have been prepared in close interaction with stakeholders and researchers. Various actors in the forest sector have a key role in the implementation of the measures.

  9. 12.3.2025 | The last projects of the Catch the Carbon package of climate measures ended at the end of 2024. The implementation of the knowledge and climate change resilient solutions produced in the package of 180 measures will continue and be further intensified through cooperation in different parts of the country.   10. 27.1.2026 | Finland and China signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on energy cooperation in Beijing on 27 January 2026. The areas of cooperation focus in particular on clean energy, smart energy systems and energy innovation.

  11. 30.10.2024 | By summer 2023, only three years had passed since the publication of the sectoral low-carbon roadmaps in 2020. A provision in Petteri Orpo’s government program from June 2023 mandated the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and various sectors to revisit the roadmaps in light of the evolving operating environment. With this mandate, the update process began in autumn 2023. By autumn 2024, all 14 participating sectors had completed their updates.

  14. 4.11.2025 | On 3 November 2025, the European Commission announced that 61 projects had been selected for funding under the latest Innovation Fund call for net-zero technologies. The projects will receive a total of EUR 2.9 billion in support. Five Finnish projects are among those selected: NotNukeOne, SCOOP, MAGHYC, NEXT HYDROMET and SB-VARKAUS.

During the previous government term, 13 sectors drew up roadmaps describing their paths towards a low-carbon economy.
