23.12.2025 | The Ministry of the Interior has submitted a draft amendment to the Passport Act and the Identity Card Act for comments. These amendments would extend passport and personal identity card validity to 10 years. The consultation process will last until 16 February 2026.

The International Law Commission is one of the UN's oldest special bodies, where a large part of the legal regulation for international relations has been prepared. The Commission's work has been of great importance in promoting the rule of law and justice internationally.

30.11.2022 | Prime Minister Sanna Marin and Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern met in Auckland on Wednesday morning local time. This was the first ever visit by a Finnish Prime Minister to New Zealand and the first visit by an EU Head of State or Government to the country since it lifted the travel restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

16.4.2020 | The Government proposes temporary legislation that would allow companies, cooperatives and associations to hold their statutory meetings despite the coronavirus epidemic and the related restrictions on gatherings while still observing health protection requirements. The amendments are proposed to remain in force until the end of September.

20.3.2025 | Today, the Government submitted to Parliament a legislative proposal on a new gambling system. The Government proposes to end Veikkaus' gambling games monopoly in betting and in online slot machine and casino games at the end of 2026, and to open the provision of these games to competition.

10.6.2020 | Reform of healthcare, social welfare and rescue services will have a major economic and operational impact on Finland’s municipalities. The range of functions for which local government is responsible will be reduced significantly and the number of people employed in the municipal sector will fall considerably.

15.6.2020 | The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of the Interior request comments on the draft government proposal concerning the health and social services reform and the organisation of rescue services from the municipalities and joint municipal authorities of mainland Finland and other parties mentioned in the request for comments. The deadline for submitting comments is 25 September 2020.

18.12.2023 | The EU’s new restrictive measures against Russia include a ban on the import of diamonds, a tighter oil price cap and a broader scope of prohibitions on imports, exports and transit of goods. 8.12.2020 | The Government proposes that wellbeing services counties be established and healthcare, social welfare and rescue services be reformed. The proposed counties would be established as soon as possible after the passing and approval of the relevant bills. The bills would enter into force in stages, the first ones on 1 July 2021 and the last ones on 1 January 2023. However, Parliament needs to pass the legislative package before the reform can enter into force.
