11.5.2026 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications is inviting comments on the draft government proposal concerning the implementation of the Ship-Source Pollution Directive. The necessary amendments would be made to the Environmental Protection Act. Comments may be submitted until 18 June 2026.

In the project a government proposal will be prepared for the amendment of the nature Conservation Act to include the provisions required by the first stage of the Nature Restoration Act of the EU and provisions to enable the expansion of trade in nature credits to cover also other purposes than ecological offsetting.

24.10.2023 | The 2023 Elisabeth Haub Award for Environmental Law and Diplomacy has been jointly awarded to Ambassador Marja Lehto of Finland and former Ambassador Marie Jacobsson of Sweden for their pivotal roles advancing environmental law and policy to protect the environment in times of armed conflicts. 11.11.2025 | The Ministry of the Interior invites comments on proposed amendments to the Act on Shooting Ranges and the Environmental Protection Act. In line with the Government Programme, the aim is to simplify the environmental permit processes and legislation concerning shooting ranges. 8.12.2025 | The seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly UNEA, the world’s highest-level decision-making body for matters related to the environment, will take place in Nairobi, Kenya from 8 to 12 December 2025. The theme of the session is ‘Advancing sustainable solutions for a resilient planet’. Finland’s UNEA delegation in Nairobi will be led by Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala.
