7.4.2026 | The evaluation explored the objectives of the Climate Act and the means to achieve these from the perspectives of impact, cost-effectiveness and acceptability. The process was led by the Ministry of the Environment. Meeting the objectives requires additional measures, especially in the land use sector.

10.12.2025 | The wellbeing services county reform is progressing towards the set objectives throughout Finland, but there are still many issues left to address. This is according to a broad-based interim evaluation of the wellbeing services county reform made by an independent expert group.

5.2.2025 | The Forest Biodiversity Programme for Southern Finland METSO (2008–2025) has had a positive impact on forest biodiversity. This is the conclusion of the independent final evaluation of the programme. A working group of the Ministry of the Environment and Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is preparing the next period of the programme that will start in 2026.

10.12.2025 | An independent group of experts has conducted a broad-based interim evaluation of the wellbeing services county reform, which was published on 10 December. Minister of Social Affairs and Health Kaisa Juuso, Minister of Local and Regional Government Anna-Kaisa Ikonen and Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen consider the findings valuable.

10.2.2023 | A group of international experts that evaluated the quality and impact of research at the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute FGI of the National Land Survey considers these as excellent. The evaluation report was published today, on 10 February 2023. 

19.1.2026 | The International Monetary Fund (IMF) published its annual report on the Finnish economy on Monday 19 January. According to the IMF, efforts to strengthen public finances will have to continue for several years.

9.10.2024 | The Research and Innovation Council will launch a two-stage inclusive and open process to identify strategic choices this autumn.

11.12.2023 | An external evaluation explored the activities of the Finnish Climate Change Panel during the term 2020–2023 and the success and impact of its activities. The evaluation was conducted in autumn 2023 by Gaia Consulting Oy, commissioned by the Ministry of the Environment.

27.2.2023 | Finland is among the leading countries in promoting sustainable development. However, in light of the current situation it may be difficult for Finland to achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda. The main challenges Finland is facing are related to ecological sustainability, global responsibility and negative transboundary impacts. It is important to continue the determined and long-term efforts to achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda.

18.5.2022 | An international evaluation commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of the ongoing SAFIR2022 and KYT2022 safety research programmes for nuclear power plants and nuclear waste management has been completed. The evaluation, which also provided feedback on the preliminary plan for the SAFER2028 research programme, was published on 17 May 2022.

16.6.2025 |  Finland will reform and strengthen its health technology assessment (HTA) activities. As part of the reform, the expertise and resources concerning HTA activities will be pooled into a single competence cluster. 

28.5.2021 | According to an evaluation published on 28 May 2021, Finland’s National Emergency Supply Agency (NESA) is an effective, flexible and agile agency, but due to changes in the operating environment, its regulation, structures and processes need to be reformed. A stakeholder survey carried out to support the evaluation shows that the operators involved in the security of supply consider the system to be working very well.

12.3.2025 | The last projects of the Catch the Carbon package of climate measures ended at the end of 2024. The implementation of the knowledge and climate change resilient solutions produced in the package of 180 measures will continue and be further intensified through cooperation in different parts of the country. The processes to support this include the activities of the National Climate Unit of the Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY Centres).

2.2.2021 | A comprehensive international evaluation of the activities of the Academy of Finland will commence. Using international expertise, the evaluation aims to produce an overall picture of the activities of the Academy of Finland and to propose ways to improve its impact, activities and structures.

4.9.2024 | An experiment based on a new type of agreement model had a positive long-term impact on the employment, confirmed income and the amount of taxes paid by immigrants participating in the experiment. According to the interviews conducted in connection with a recent evaluation, the close contacts between employers and employment-promoting services were particularly useful.

4.6.2021 | The Competence centre for sustainable and innovative public procurement KEINO is a key national operator in promoting sustainable and innovative procurement. According to an evaluation published on 4 June 2021, the Competence centre successfully brings together key operators and competencies in the sector.

21.1.2025 | A report on the possible need to make amendments to board-level employee representation was submitted by rapporteur Jukka Ahtela (Master of Laws, Trained on the Bench) to Minister of Employment Arto Satonen on 21 January 2025. The report will now be discussed by a tripartite working group. The Government will assess the need for amendments in its mid-term policy review session in spring 2025.

18.11.2020 | Based on a recent evaluation, the Finnish Environment Institute SYKE is a progressive research institute that is widely appreciated in society. It produces research and expertise of a high standard and its societal impact is significant. What SYKE could do, however, is show even stronger leadership as a promoter of sustainable development, both internationally and nationally.

3.12.2024 | Resilience and the report on the future of European competitiveness are on the agenda at the Health Council meeting in Brussels on 3 December 2024. On Finland's initiative, the meeting will also discuss the health sector’s role as part of the preparedness union strategy. Minister of Social Security Sanni Grahn-Laasonen will represent Finland at the meeting.
