23.4.2025 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s Government has agreed on the General Government Fiscal Plan for 2026–2029. The decisions focus on reinforcing the conditions for economic growth and enhancing the security of Finland and the Finnish people. At the same time, the Government will ensure that public finances are sustainable. The growth package will be financed responsibly through measures to increase general government revenue and reduce expenditure.

6.2.2020 | The world-renowned Chelsea Flower Show with a long history will again be held in London on 19–23 May 2020. Finnish nature will bloom in the spirit of plant health at Finnish Soul Garden designed by environmental biologist, landscape designer Taina Suonio.

29.5.2020 | In its informal meeting on 29 May, the Government revised the maximum number of seasonal workers needed for harvesting by agricultural and horticultural enterprises. The Government decided that in addition to the entry of 4,500 seasonal workers, on which a decision was made earlier, a further 4,500 seasonal workers from third countries can come to Finland to meet the needs in primary production starting on 1 June.

10.10.2024 | The amendments aim to safeguard a sufficient level of income for foreign pickers and improve monitoring to ensure the rights of pickers are realised. The wild berry sector will be brought into line with other sectors requiring seasonal labour.  

21.2.2019 | Biolan, a Finnish company specialised in ecological gardening and environmental products, has donated two dry toilets to South Africa. The donation took place via a voluntary work project of the Remote Year work and travel abroad programme. The groundwork for collaboration on dry toilets between Finland and South Africa was laid in September 2019 when a delegation from Finland met the South-African Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation.

26.6.2024 | In May 2024, the Government outlined that the picking of wild berries is an activity based primarily on seasonal work in an employment relationship. The aim is to safeguard a sufficient level of income for foreign pickers and to improve monitoring to ensure the rights of pickers are realised.
