30.3.2026 | EU energy ministers will hold an informal video conference on Tuesday 31 March 2026 to formulate a common response to the effects of the Persian Gulf crisis on energy markets. Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala will represent Finland at the meeting.

4.7.2025 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment requests comments on the draft Energy and Climate Strategy. Comments can be submitted between 4 July and 22 August 2025. The strategy set out the measures to boost the clean transition and promote climate targets.

27.6.2025 | The clean energy transition is progressing at a good pace, thanks in part to the emissions trading system. However, reaching Finland’s climate targets will require more action in the effort sharing sector, and especially in the land use sector where emissions increased compared to the previous year.

2.12.2025 | The first evaluations have been published on the preliminary impacts and results of Finland’s CAP Strategic Plan. The evaluations analysed the results and impact achieved related to the entrepreneurial income and competitiveness of agriculture, animal welfare, the biodiversity of agricultural environments and emissions from agriculture. The evaluations also contain recommendations for developing the CAP Strategic Plan and the next policy period.

18.12.2025 | Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala and Estonia’s Minister of Energy and the Environment Anders Sutt discussed future opportunities for Finnish-Estonian energy cooperation in Helsinki on 18 December 2025. The countries have so far had successful collaboration on developing the transmission networks for electricity and gas, protecting critical infrastructure and creating a common electricity market.

3.11.2025 | On 28 October 2025, Finland and Kazakhstan signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on a strategic partnership in the energy sector. The particular areas of cooperation are the promotion of energy and clean technologies, security of energy supply and decarbonisation of electricity and heat production.

15.11.2024 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has launched the Room for Growth project to come up with ideas for new ways to boost economic growth. As part of the project, a discussion event will be held on Tuesday 19 November at 15.00–16.30 at Aalto University. The event will be streamed live and released as a recording on the government video service.

13.6.2025 | The EU’s energy ministers will meet in Luxembourg on 16 June 2025 to discuss the roadmap towards ending Russian energy imports and to approve conclusions on strengthening the energy union by reinforcing energy security. 5.8.2025 | Representatives of UN Member States will negotiate on the Global Plastics Treaty in Geneva, Switzerland on 5–14 August. The negotiation situation is very challenging, and there is also an increasing political pressure to reach an agreement. The demanding foreign policy situation has also made the negotiations on the Global Plastics Treaty more difficult.

14.3.2025 | The first Energy Council meeting under the Polish Presidency will be held in Brussels on 17 March 2025 with a focus on the Commission’s action plan for affordable energy and the energy security situation in the EU. Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala will represent Finland at the meeting.

13.12.2022 | The EU energy ministers will meet at an extraordinary Council meeting in Brussels on 13 December 2022. The only item on the agenda is the European Commission’s proposal of 22 November for a Council regulation establishing a market correction mechanism to protect citizens and the economy against excessively high gas prices.

25.11.2024 | The roadmap of the Natural Resources Institute Finland presents two alternative scenarios for the change in the use of peatland fields in different regions. The plan was drawn up together with stakeholders as part of the Catch the Carbon package of climate measures for the land use sector, and it offers support for the official preparation processes and policy making.

22.11.2024 | Pressures to reach an understanding will be mounting when the representatives of the UN Member States convene in Busan, Republic of Korea, on 25 November–1 December for the last scheduled negotiations on the Global Plastics Treaty. Finland’s Chief Negotiator Tuulia Toikka from the Ministry of the Environment expects that the negotiations will be challenging.

14.10.2024 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has granted a total of EUR 44,546,484 in investment aid to 12 projects under the national Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP). Moreover, by a decision supported by the Ministerial Finance Committee on 3 October, EUR 28,048,200 was granted to Nordic Ren-Gas Oy for a large demonstration project on new energy technology.
