  1. 12.8.2025 | The Siikajoki Vapaaksi environmental association is set to restore the Pöyrynkoski rapids, enabling the free ascent of migratory fish in the river. The project was formally launched on Tuesday 12 August at Revonlahti School in Siikajoki, North Ostrobothnia. Formally conveying favourable greetings to the event, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sari Essayah noted that the project was a superb example of a remediation exercise promoted by local parties and prepared in broad partnership.

  2. 5.5.2022 | The amendments to the fishing regulations in the River Tenojoki for summer 2022, agreed with Norway, were confirmed by a Government decree. The amended regulations apply to fishing for species other than salmon. The legislative proposal to ban salmon fishing is being discussed by Parliament.   5. 7.4.2021 | The negotiations between Finland and Norway on salmon fishing during the 2021 fishing season have been completed. As a joint outcome, Finland and Norway are proposing a highly exceptional ban on salmon fishing in the whole River Tenojoki (Tana) watercourse, the Tanafjord and the sea area. Fishing for other species will continue, and for this purpose a new type of rod fishing licence is proposed for the area.

  6. 10.5.2019 | The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has issued a decree on the conservation values of declining and threatened fish. The decree is related to an amendment to the Fishing Act that entered into force on 1 May 2019. Under the amendment, the value of illegal catches of threatened or declining fish species shall be forfeited to the State based on the value of the species in question in connection with fishing offences and violations.
