3.6.2026 | The new Combating Hate Crime in Finland – Current State and Measures report examines the prevention of hate crime and hate speech in Finland. The report was drawn up as part of the implementation of the Government’s equality statement and supports the follow-up work on human rights recommendations issued to Finland by international monitoring bodies.

24.2.2026 | The Finnish Government discussed recommendations, decisions and conclusions issued to Finland by international human rights monitoring bodies. Based on the discussion, the state secretaries of the parties in Government decided on further measures related to the recommendations. This was the second discussion held as part of the implementation of the Government’s equality statement.

9.3.2026 | On 9 March, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo hosted a roundtable discussion with a group of girls and young women of immigrant background from various parts of Finland. The discussion focused on equality in working life and the effects of racism on young people’s wellbeing and hope for the future.

14.10.2024 | The Government discussed the recommendations, decisions and conclusions issued to Finland by the international human rights monitoring bodies on 3 October. The discussion was held as part of the implementation of the Government's equality statement. Based on the discussion, the State Secretaries of the parties in Government decided on further measures related to the recommendations.

11.3.2025 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo invited representatives from Finland’s six largest cities (Helsinki, Espoo, Tampere, Vantaa, Oulu and Turku), immigrant organisations, religious communities and public officials to explore ways to promote good relations between population groups in Finland. The event was organised in cooperation with the City of Vantaa on 11 March.

5.9.2025 | On 5 September, Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen decided, following discussions within Finland’s state leadership, that Finland will join the New York Declaration on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State solution, prepared under the leadership of France and Saudi Arabia.

10.2.2025 | The annual OSCE Conference on addressing anti-Semitism opened today, February 10, in Helsinki. The conference is part of the OSCE's work on combating intolerance. In addition to anti-Semitism, the conference touches upon discrimination faced by Muslims, Christians and representatives of other religions.

3.5.2022 | In May, the Ministry of Justice will organise an international webinar to share information on the practices of restorative justice in addressing hate crimes and hate speech.

6.9.2023 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo gave a presentation speech to Parliament on the government statement on promoting equality, gender equality and non-discrimination on 6 September 2023. Speech to be checked against delivery.

27.1.2022 | On Holocaust Remembrance Day, which Finland observes as the Day of Remembrance for Victims of Persecution, we remember the lives lost to the destructive forces of intolerance, hatred and violence. In taking this moment to reflect on our collective grief, we look back on the past. This day reminds us of a painful part of our history and calls on us to bear responsibility for eradicating hate speech, racism and especially antisemitism – Europe’s original sin.

15.3.2022 | The secretariat of the Advisory Board for Ethnic Relations has been contacted a number of times regarding hate speech and harassment directed towards Russian speakers living in Finland. The Advisory Board condemns all racism, hate speech and other harassment against people of Russian origin, Russian speakers and people from the former Soviet Union in Finland. Adults are responsible for ensuring that there is zero tolerance for intimidation and bullying against children and young people.

25.8.2023 | The peace projects launched by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Iraq and Somalia have brought together people, and especially young people, who share an interest in the challenges facing the country and society, and in peace building. Millions of viewers have been reached through social media and television over the four years of projects.

22.11.2022 | Prime Minister Sanna Marin met with Icelandic Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir in Reykjavik on Tuesday 22 November. Their discussions focused on security, climate and energy issues, Nordic and Arctic cooperation, EU affairs and bilateral relations.

25.3.2021 | Minister of Local Government Sirpa Paatero today received the final report of the Citizens’ Panel which assembled in February to discuss measures that Finland should take to protect those working in public occupations from hate speech and to safeguard free expression of opinion.
