The final report on the reform implementation and on the next steps was submitted on 1 March 2023 to the Members of Parliament who participated in the drafting of the parliamentary policy approaches for continuous learning.

Finland has drawn attention to the future of work during its Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers. This topic was examined from the perspective of climate change at a conference held in Helsinki on 30 November 2021.

3.12.2020 | The Strategy for Lifelong Guidance aims to improve people’s abilities to make educational and career decisions for themselves and to ensure that they receive the necessary support through multi-channel information, advice and guidance services. The strategy drawn up by the Lifelong Guidance Forum presents strategic objectives for the development of guidance and recommends measures extending to 2023.

10.8.2021 | The COVID-19 pandemic has reversed progress in the global education goals by two decades. The crisis has dropped many children out of school and deteriorated the quality of education. Finnish development cooperation in the education sector tackles the global learning crisis by promoting the quality of education. Particular attention is paid to girls and to children and youth in the most vulnerable position.

More than 80 per cent of them felt that their capacity to work was good in relation to the physical and mental demands of the work.

15.5.2020 | The parliamentary group that has been working to reform continuous learning has outlined how competence-related services should be recorganised to better serve the needs of people and working life. These policies give shape to the new service system for people of working age. Later, the parliamentary group will also examine issues related to learning, guidance and foresight at workplaces and income during studies.

The reform will respond to the educational needs arising from changes in the world of work and seek solutions to combine work and study. Implementation of the comprehensive reform will continue beyond this government term.

Media literacy was a topic of discussion at a Nordic conference organised by the Ministry of Education and Culture on 18 and 19 September.

2.3.2023 | On Thursday 2 March 2023, the Government appointed the members of the Finnish National Commission for UNESCO for the four-year term from 2 March 2023 to 31 December 2026. The Finnish National Commission for UNESCO is an expert and cooperation body providing advice on matters related to UNESCO.

17.2.2023 | Aalto University and the Ministry of Transport and Communications are implementing the extensive Cyber Citizen Project to create a common model for teaching cybersecurity skills to citizens in the EU Member States. As part of the project, on 17 February 2023 Aalto University published a comprehensive report on the current state of teaching cybersecurity skills to citizens throughout the European Union.
