8.5.2026 | In its meeting, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs discussed the Commission communication on security threats posed by drones and the Commission’s proposal for a regulation to boost EU industry. The ministerial committee also outlined Finland’s positions for four council meetings taking place next week.

30.10.2024 | By summer 2023, only three years had passed since the publication of the sectoral low-carbon roadmaps in 2020. A provision in Petteri Orpo’s government program from June 2023 mandated the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and various sectors to revisit the roadmaps in light of the evolving operating environment. With this mandate, the update process began in autumn 2023. By autumn 2024, all 14 participating sectors had completed their updates.

1.12.2023 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has started to update the low-carbon roadmaps together with the sectors. During the previous government term, 13 sectors drew up roadmaps describing their paths towards a low-carbon economy. Industry-specific approach helps to ensure that the roadmaps are ones that companies in the sector can identify with and genuinely commit to.

4.12.2025 | Finland is on the path to achieving the emission reduction targets for the effort-sharing sector for the period 2021–2030, set jointly in the EU. On 4 December 2025, the Government gave a Report to Parliament on the Medium-Term Climate Plan that sets out the measures to boost emission reductions.

27.1.2026 | Finland and China signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on energy cooperation in Beijing on 27 January 2026. The areas of cooperation focus in particular on clean energy, smart energy systems and energy innovation.

14.11.2025 | Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto will participate in the UN Climate Change Conference COP30 in Belém, Brazil on 14–15 November 2025. Minister Puisto’s agenda will focus on clean energy and clean transition and Nordic cooperation. He will participate in events organised at the Finland Pavilion co-hosted by Finnish businesses, cities and research institutes.

22.1.2026 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will visit Beijing, China, on 25–28 January. On Tuesday 27 January, Prime Minister Orpo will meet with President of China Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Li Qiang, who is hosting the official visit, and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Zhao Leji. The purpose of the visit is to continue dialogue with the Chinese leadership and to promote business opportunities for Finland in China.

4.11.2025 | On 3 November 2025, the European Commission announced that 61 projects had been selected for funding under the latest Innovation Fund call for net-zero technologies. The projects will receive a total of EUR 2.9 billion in support. Five Finnish projects are among those selected: NotNukeOne, SCOOP, MAGHYC, NEXT HYDROMET and SB-VARKAUS.

28.8.2023 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment proposes appropriations of EUR 4.4 billion for its administrative branch for 2024, which is about EUR 448 million more than in the 2023 budget.

3.11.2025 | On 28 October 2025, Finland and Kazakhstan signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on a strategic partnership in the energy sector. The particular areas of cooperation are the promotion of energy and clean technologies, security of energy supply and decarbonisation of electricity and heat production.

4.12.2025 | On 4 December 2025, the Government submitted the national Energy and Climate Strategy to Parliament as a report. In line with the Government Programme, the strategy will accelerate the clean transition, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen carbon sinks.

18.2.2022 | Sectoral organisations, companies, counties, municipalities and other stakeholders are invited to participate in the preparation of a voluntary agreement on a low-carbon circular economy and to become partners to it. The agreement is part of Finland’s National Circular Economy Programme, and the aim is to promote the transition to a low-carbon circular economy society in different sectors.

9.12.2021 | At its meeting on Thursday 9 December, the Climate Policy Roundtable discussed low-carbon construction. 5.2.2021 | The Climate Policy Roundtable will hold its sixth meeting on Monday 8 February. The main topic of the meeting are the low-carbon roadmaps for individual sectors. The meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Sanna Marin.

13.3.2025 | The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will visit Finland on 14–15 March on the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen. This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Finland and the United Arab Emirates.

19.2.2020 | Coordinator Mauri Yltiö from the Ministry of the Environment tells about the smooth cooperation within the ministry in preparing for the next structural fund period. The Ministry of the Environment has a joint working group to deal with matters relating to the structural funds and cohesion policy, composed of key experts and with broad representation of the ministry’s departments.
