31.12.2025 | Fellow citizens, The darkest part of winter is now behind us – every day is a little bit longer than the last. Winter storm Hannes, which raged through Finland, has now subsided. I would like to thank the authorities and everyone else who has worked hard to repair the damage caused by the storm. We can be proud of the way Finland comes together in these situations.

12.6.2025 | From 1 July 2025 onwards, pregnant people will be offered the whooping cough (pertussis) vaccine as part of the national vaccination programme. Studies show that vaccination during pregnancy is effective in protecting newborns from getting whooping cough. The vaccine is safe for both the mother and the foetus. Having the vaccine will be voluntary.

27.8.2020 | The mothers who were awarded this year will receive their decorations at the national Mother’s Day ceremony to be held in 2021. This is due to the emergency conditions caused by the coronavirus epidemic.

16.1.2025 | The Government of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has drawn up a Government Integration Programme for 2024–2027. The programme includes 32 measures based on the Government Programme. Integration policy is based on the learning of Finnish or Swedish, employment, familiarisation with Finnish society and compliance with its rules.

20.12.2020 | Today, on Sunday 20 December 2020, Finland repatriated six Finnish children and two adult mothers from north-east Syria. The persons are now in the care of competent Finnish authorities.

23.4.2020 | Due to the exceptional circumstances caused by the coronavirus epidemic, this year the national Mother's Day celebration cannot be held on the actual Mother’s Day on 10 May. The Government has prohibited gatherings of more than 10 people, and many of the mothers receiving a decoration belong to the risk groups.

18.3.2021 | To date, the costs incurred by Finnish authorities for the repatriation of 20 Finnish children and their mothers from northeast Syria amount to approximately EUR 395,000. The assignment began in 2019.

7.10.2022 | The Horn of Africa is battling with a historic drought that threatens the lives of millions of people. More funding is urgently needed for both emergency relief and long-term solutions. Finland, too, has increased its support to the region.

22.2.2021 | In 2020, the Unit for Consular Assistance provided nearly twice as much guidance compared to the previous year. In the spring, during the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic, personal guidance and advice were given to tens of thousands of travellers stranded abroad. Thousands of travellers were assisted in returning to Finland after air traffic ground to a sudden halt.

5.1.2026 | The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health invites comments on the integration support. The comments should be submitted by 16 February 2026.

3.11.2025 | The Ministry of Education and Culture has granted the first five authorisations to provide general upper secondary education in English. The authorisations were granted to Gradia, Jyväskylä Educational Consortium Gradia, and to the cities of Helsinki, Oulu, Pori and Tampere. This is part of the Programme of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s Government.

6.3.2025 | A report commissioned by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health discusses how society could better support children in contentious divorces and custody disputes. The report gives 31 recommendations for improving the situation.

24.10.2024 | The new Integration Act, which will enter into force at the beginning of 2025, will be supplemented by decrees. The Government’s integration policy is based on language learning, work, familiarisation with Finnish society and compliance with its rules.
