29.8.2024 | On 29 August 2024, the Government appointed a new Board for the National Nuclear Waste Management Fund for the term of 1 September 2024–31 August 2027. 18.9.2025 | The OECD’s Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) and the Government of South Korea will organise a ministerial meeting in Paris on 18–19 September 2025. The Roadmaps to New Nuclear meeting aims to strengthen cooperation between governments and industry to boost the role of nuclear power in providing clean energy and securing energy supply. 15.4.2026 | Kuopion Energia Oy has submitted to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment an environmental impact assessment (EIA) programme concerning its plan to build a small nuclear power plant in Kuopio for district heating production. 30.3.2023 | On 30 March 2023, the Government granted Fortum Power and Heat Oy an operating licence for the disposal facility for low and intermediate level waste, located in the Loviisa power plant area. 1.3.2022 | The national programme and environmental impact assessment of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste management were published on 1 March 2022. The programme was drawn up by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health together with the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority.
