26.11.2025 | The Ministerial Council of the European Space Agency (ESA) will meet in Bremen, Germany, on 26–27 November 2025. The Council will decide on ESA’s funding for 2026–2028 and the preliminary financial guidelines for 2029–2030. Finland will be represented by Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto.

23.3.2026 | Timo Jaatinen, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, will visit the United States on 23–26 March 2026. The purpose of the trip is to promote the business of Finnish health technology companies and to strengthen Finland’s cooperation with the US space and energy administration.

30.12.2024 | The Government adopted a resolution on the national space strategy on 30 December 2024. The space sector and its geopolitical operating environment have changed significantly in recent years. There are around 200 companies operating in the sector in Finland and their turnover has tripled in 2018–2022.

21.11.2024 | The Government proposes that on 22 November 2024 the President of the Republic approve the acts for establishing the Finnish Space Situational Awareness Centre.

10.10.2024 | The Government proposes funding for the establishment of the Finnish Space Situational Awareness Centre. Funding is proposed for the administrative branches of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The Ministry of Transport and Communications share of the funding amounts to EUR 411 000.

6.11.2023 | Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman will attend the Space Summit 2023 in Spain’s Seville on 6–7 November 2023. The event will bring together European space operators. An informal meeting of the EU Competitiveness Council, an informal ministerial meeting of the European Space Agency (ESA) and an informal joint meeting of the EU and ESA will be held in connection with the summit.

21.1.2025 | Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman signed the Artemis Accords on behalf of Finland in Otaniemi, Espoo on 21 January 2025. The Artemis Accords were established by NASA and the US Department of State to boost NASA’s Artemis Program.

18.8.2022 | On 18 August 2022, the Government appointed the Finnish Space Committee for the term of 6 September 2022–5 September 2025. The committee guides and directs the implementation of the national space strategy.

23.11.2022 | The Ministerial Council of the European Space Agency (ESA) was held in Paris on 22–23 November 2022. At the Ministerial Council, which is organised every three years, the Member States decide on the priorities, programmes and funding of ESA’s activities for the coming years.

7.12.2021 | Finland wants to be actively involved in the growing space sector. In future, the most interesting news about space-related research and business activities as well as Finland’s space administration and international cooperation will be available on the new website.

8.6.2022 | The EU ministers responsible for competitiveness will meet in Luxembourg on 9–10 June 2022. On the first day, the ministers will discuss topics related to the single market and industrial policy, followed by research, innovation and space on the second day.

15.2.2022 | Ministers responsible for space affairs will meet in Toulouse, France on 16 February 2022. An informal meeting of competitiveness ministers and an informal ministerial meeting of the European Space Agency (ESA) will be held on the same day. Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä will represent Finland at the meetings.

19.11.2020 | On 20 November 2020, Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä will participate in an informal video conference of EU competitiveness ministers, which will address the space policy. The ministers will discuss Europe’s role in the international space economy, market developments and common principles in the sector.

5.12.2023 | The EU’s Competitiveness Council will meet in Brussels on 7–8 December 2023. Minister of Employment Arto Satonen will represent Finland in the meeting of ministers responsible for internal market and industry on 7 December. Meanwhile, Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman will be Finland’s representative at the meeting of the ministers responsible for research and space on 8 December.

24.11.2021 | The EU Competitiveness Council meeting in Brussels on 25−26 November will focus on the regulation of activities of the largest digital companies and improvements to safety of users of various online intermediation services. The agenda for space issues includes the financing of companies in the sector and the management of space transport.

18.11.2019 | The European Space Week is the largest event in the European space sector in 2019. It will take place in Helsinki on 3-5 December, The event will present the latest achievements of the European Union's space programmes Copernicus, EGNOS and Galileo and the new opportunities provided by the transformation of the space sector.

26.5.2021 | The EU Competitiveness Council will meet in Brussels on 27 and 28 May 2021. The ministers responsible for the internal market and industrial policy will discuss the EU’s updated industrial strategy and the regulation of digital market and services. The ministers in charge of research and innovation will exchange views on renewing the European Research Area (ERA). The management of space traffic is also on the agenda.

29.11.2019 | EU ministers responsible for research and space convened in Brussels on Friday 29 November. The meeting was chaired by Minister for Economic Affairs Katri Kulmuni. The Competitiveness Council adopted conclusions on space solutions for a sustainable Arctic and the updated EU bioeconomy strategy and made progress in the preparation of EU research and innovation programmes.
