2.4.2026 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on the draft government proposal to amend the Private Roads Act. The proposed amendments respond to the needs identified by the authorities and courts applying the act, as well as to feedback from stakeholders. Comments may be submitted until 11 May 2026.

21.8.2024 | Sweden's Minister for Rural Affairs Peter Kullgren and Finland's Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sari Essayah visited the National Emergency Supply Agency on 20 August. The Finnish and Swedish Governments aim to develop economic cooperation, and exchange of information and communications related to security of supply.

11.10.2024 | The EU environment ministers will meet in Luxembourg on Monday 14 October. The topics include the negotiation objectives of the EU for both the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP16) in October and UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in November. The ministers will also exchange views on the progress of the UN Plastics Treaty and on the EU Chemicals Strategy. Minister of Climate and the Environment Kai Mykkänen will represent Finland in Luxembourg.

1.6.2026 | The 2026 National Cyber Security Exercise for state administration organizations was held from 25 to 29 May. In the exercise, the aim was to influence citizen services through cyber-attacks using real-world threat actor tactics and techniques.

2.4.2026 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment is seeking insights from people who have moved to Finland based on work or study. The responses will be used in the Ministry’s studies on immigration models and ways to streamline official processes during the immigration entry stage.

5.2.2020 | The ambassadors of the EU Member States today adopted a shared political agreement on the content of the new Drinking Water Directive. The new Drinking Water Directive is aimed at guaranteeing a higher quality of drinking water, enhancing the accessibility of water, increasing the communication of information about water management and improving the energy efficiency of water utilities in the entire Union.

30.10.2024 | By summer 2023, only three years had passed since the publication of the sectoral low-carbon roadmaps in 2020. A provision in Petteri Orpo’s government program from June 2023 mandated the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and various sectors to revisit the roadmaps in light of the evolving operating environment. With this mandate, the update process began in autumn 2023. By autumn 2024, all 14 participating sectors had completed their updates.

A total of 24 experiments selected for implementation in the Experimental Finland project of the Prime Minister's Office will start to find solutions to these and other challenges. The call for applications implemented through kokeilunpaikka.fi, a digital platform open to everyone, ended on 22 January 2019.

6.2.2024 | On 6 February 2024, the European Commission issued a Communication concerning the climate target for 2040 and a Communication on Industrial Carbon Management. The Communications open up paths towards new clean solutions and further development of carbon sequestration.

16.10.2024 | The Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16) will convene in Cali, Colombia on 21 October–1 November 2024. The main objective of COP16 is to agree on the implementation of the global biodiversity targets and the related monitoring.
