  4. 16.3.2026 | At their remote meeting on Monday 16 March, the ministers for Nordic cooperation decided to set up a commission to examine ways of strengthening the status of Åland, the Faroe Islands and Greenland in Nordic cooperation.   5. 11.3.2026 | Finland’s Ministry of Transport and Communications published a Joint Nordic Strategy for Transport System Preparedness on 11 March 2026. The strategy was handed over to the Nordic transport ministers in Rovaniemi where the ministers also issued a joint statement. As part of their meeting, the ministers will also visit the multinational Cold Response 26 military exercise in Lapland on 12 March 2026.

  6. 4.12.2025 | Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland Elina Valtonen hosted an informal meeting with the Foreign Ministers of the Nordic and Central Asian countries on the sidelines of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Ministerial Council in Vienna on 4 December 2025. The meeting brought together ministers or their representatives from Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

  8. 1.12.2025 | Finland and Sweden have agreed to further enhance their cooperation in a number of areas, including foreign and security policy, security of supply and transport and logistics. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson adopted a joint declaration on the matter on Monday 1 December at Kesäranta in Helsinki.

  9. 10.10.2025 | Finland and the United States have signed a memorandum of understanding on icebreaker cooperation. Finnish President Alexander Stubb and US President Donald Trump signed the memorandum of understanding at their meeting in Washington on 9 October. Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo also attended the meeting. This memorandum of understanding lays the foundation for commercial agreements between the United States Coast Guard and Finnish companies.

The ministers will discuss countering hybrid threats posed by Russia and Belarus, and evacuation practices in the countries in the Baltic Sea region. This year Finland holds the Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers, together with Åland. The Government submitted a report on the subject to Parliament on 5 June 2025. The report evaluated how well and effectively the system and funding of regional development functions.
