26.8.2025 | The Finnish development financier Finnfund has set up a new investment fund to support the development of digital services and infrastructure in developing countries. The aim is to promote gender equality and financial inclusiveness in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

17.2.2022 | On 17 February, the Government issued a resolution ending the national recommendation on remote work after 28 February. After the national recommendation ends, employers are encouraged to follow the instructions provided by regional health authorities, as the situation in different regions may change rapidly.

2.12.2021 | The Government recommends that workplaces in areas in the community transmission phase switch to remote work when possible. Recommendation on remote work will be in effect until further notice. The Government issued a government resolution on the matter on 2 December.

25.7.2025 | The Finnish OSCE Chairpersonship will organise a conference on 31 July 2025 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act. The conference will pay tribute to the legacy of the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe (CSCE) in Helsinki in 1975 and highlight the role of civil society in advancing OSCE’s principles and commitments. Helsinki+50 Fund will be launched as part of the Conference to support the OSCE’s operational capacity.

7.3.2025 | Minister of Employment Arto Satonen will represent Finland at the EU’s Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council in Brussels on 10 March 2025.

13.2.2025 | Minister Anna-Kaisa Ikonen represented Finland at the World Governments Summit in the United Arab Emirates. At the event, the Suomi.fi service won the Govtech Prize for Best Government Service in the World.

16.2.2023 | The amendments to the Aliens Act will streamline the application and decision-making process for work-based residence permits. The reform is part of a broader package that aims to reduce the average processing time of permits to a maximum of one month. The new provisions will increase the automation of the application process and introduce a certification for employers.

8.8.2024 | The Ministry of Justice will move to shared premises with the Ministry of Education and Culture at Meritullinkatu 10, Helsinki on 12 August 2024. The premises have been renovated to meet the needs of both ministries.

4.6.2021 | According to the Working Life Barometer 2020 published by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment on 4 June 2021, the coronavirus pandemic had little effect on the physical and mental strain of work or work ability among all wage and salary earners. The level of stress or work exhaustion experienced also did not change significantly from 2019. However, there were clear differences between groups.

15.7.2024 | The Council of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) held its 132nd session in London from 8 to 12 July 2024. Finland participated in the session for the first time as a full member since its election to the IMO Council in December 2023.

23.6.2020 | In its meeting on Tuesday 23 June, the Government also received a report on the measures to be taken based on the assessment of the crisis follow-up group headed by Permanent Secretary Martti Hetemäki. In addition, the Government received a briefing on the current epidemiological situation.

19.12.2024 | Finland’s Central Government and other operators are applying for a total of approximately EUR 73.36 million in financial support for 11 transport projects from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for Transport. In addition, EU funding is being sought for the acquisition of a new icebreaker. The Ministerial Finance Committee decided in favour of the applications on 19 December 2024.
