5.6.2025 | The Government proposes that the transitional period for introducing real time text in emergency calls be extended. It must be possible to submit an emergency call using real time text by 28 June 2027.

31.3.2025 | The Ministry of Justice and the Prime Minister's Office are sending text messages to eligible voters reminding them of the upcoming county and municipal elections. The recipients have been selected by random sampling.

2.2.2026 | The 12th Session of the Plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services IPBES will begin in Manchester on 3 February. The session is to approve the Business & Biodiversity Report.

16.3.2026 | The EU Environment Council will meet in Brussels on Tuesday 17 March. Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala will represent Finland at the meeting. Minister Multala stresses that now it is highly important to defend a consistent climate policy and, in particular, the emissions trading system.

11.2.2026 | The Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Finnish missions abroad provided consular services to approximately 245,000 customers in 2025. In addition, the Ministry’s 24/7 service was contacted around 6,700 times over the course of the year.

9.1.2025 | Provisions on the answering of emergency communications made to the general emergency number and on the accessibility of the number were added to the Act on Emergency Response Centre Operations in 2023. The legislative amendments implemented the EU Directive on the accessibility requirements for products and services (European Accessibility Act). The amendments will enter into force on 28 June 2025.

31.12.2025 | Fellow citizens, The darkest part of winter is now behind us – every day is a little bit longer than the last. Winter storm Hannes, which raged through Finland, has now subsided. I would like to thank the authorities and everyone else who has worked hard to repair the damage caused by the storm. We can be proud of the way Finland comes together in these situations.

7.11.2025 | A new survey will open on Monday 10 November, giving pupils in years 5–9 the chance to share their thoughts on what is important. Their responses will help us as we prepare for the next government term.

20.2.2023 | The Climate Policy Roundtable holds its last meetings for now on Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 February. The main topics are the evaluation of the work done by the Roundtable and key messages to the next Government. The Roundtable is chaired by Prime Minister Sanna Marin.

22.9.2022 | Representatives of civil society organisations met at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in early September to exchange views with Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto on Finland’s objectives and priorities in the 51st session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC). Consultation events under the lead of the Minister for Foreign Affairs prior to the UNHRC sessions is an integral part of Finland’s preparations for its membership in the Council.

1.11.2024 | Minister of Climate and the Environment Kai Mykkänen stresses that, to reach the global targets, China must be more strongly involved in the environmental and climate work.

21.2.2023 | Finland must adhere to its target of climate neutrality by 2035 and aim to be carbon negative soon after that. Finland should not delay or reverse climate and nature measures, the Climate Policy Roundtable stated at its last meeting on Tuesday. Prime Minister Sanna Marin chaired the meeting.

31.12.2024 | Fellow citizens, The last few days of the year have brought our security into focus. We all went off to celebrate Christmas, each in our own way.  But even during the holidays, Finland kept an eye out for trouble.

11.4.2024 | Nuclear energy is produced for good reasons. In the early days of January, the coldest winter conditions for decades raised electricity consumption in Finland to a maximum of 15 gigawatts, which is the biggest quantity for nearly a decade. There was indeed demand for electricity produced with nuclear energy. The more challenging energy market situation has increased support for the use of nuclear energy across Europe.

13.12.2023 | UN Climate Conference COP28 has ended after having gone into overtime due to challenging negotiations. For the final text a historical agreement was reached concerning fossil fuels, but the chances to meet the 1.5 degree target seem quite fragile. The countries and especially the large economies should take urgent action to meet the target.

11.10.2024 | The EU environment ministers will meet in Luxembourg on Monday 14 October. The topics include the negotiation objectives of the EU for both the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP16) in October and UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in November. The ministers will also exchange views on the progress of the UN Plastics Treaty and on the EU Chemicals Strategy. Minister of Climate and the Environment Kai Mykkänen will represent Finland in Luxembourg.
