13.3.2025 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has adopted the financial statement of the National Nuclear Waste Management Fund for 2024 and decided on the recognition of the profit of the Fund as revenue. 29.8.2024 | On 29 August 2024, the Government appointed a new Board for the National Nuclear Waste Management Fund for the term of 1 September 2024–31 August 2027. 8.12.2025 | The seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly UNEA, the world’s highest-level decision-making body for matters related to the environment, will take place in Nairobi, Kenya from 8 to 12 December 2025. The theme of the session is ‘Advancing sustainable solutions for a resilient planet’. 5.8.2025 | Representatives of UN Member States will negotiate on the Global Plastics Treaty in Geneva, Switzerland on 5–14 August. The negotiation situation is very challenging, and there is also an increasing political pressure to reach an agreement. 4.11.2025 | On 3 November 2025, the European Commission announced that 61 projects had been selected for funding under the latest Innovation Fund call for net-zero technologies. The projects will receive a total of EUR 2.9 billion in support. 16.6.2025 | The EU Environment Council will meet in Luxembourg on Tuesday 17 June. At the Council, the ministers will exchange views on the preparations for the UN Climate Conference (COP30) to be held in Belém, Brazil. The aim is also to reach a common approach, i.e. the position of the Member States, concerning the Regulation on circularity requirements for vehicle design and on management of end-of-life vehicles. 5.12.2024 | On 5 December 2024, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment received an environmental impact assessment (EIA) report from Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO).
