Annakaisa Iivari appointed as Director General of the Department for Communities and Functional Capacity at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health

On Thursday 17 November, the Government appointed Annakaisa Iivari as Director General of the Department for Communities and Functional Capacity at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. She will take up her duties on 1 December 2022. The appointment is for a fixed term until 30 November 2027.

Iivari has served as Director of the Shared Services Unit at the Ministry’s Department for Wellbeing and Services/Department for Communities and Functional Capacity since 2017. Between 2012–2017, she served as Director of the Clients and Personnel Group at the Department for Social and Health Services. Iivari joined the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health in 1991. She holds the degree of Master of Health Science.

The Department for Communities and Functional Capacity at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health handles issues pertaining to health and social services for children, young people and families, services for people with disabilities, services for older people, medical and social rehabilitation, the promotion of social wellbeing, functional capacity and health and the prevention of illness.

The Department is also responsible for the coordination of the Ministry’s government grant activities, and grants awarded from gambling profits for the promotion of health and social wellbeing.
