The Social Security Committee will have its first meeting on Monday, 20 April 2020. The members of the Committee shall discuss the working methods of the Committee, the duties of its divisions and the launching of the work on defining the current state of social security. The meeting will be organised by means of remote connections.

- The emergency conditions caused by the coronavirus have made the role of social security apparent in our society. The aim of the work of the Social Security Committee is to ensure that we will even in the future be able to support people who face social risks. Social security has a fundamental impact on what our society is like, says Pasi Moisio, Chair of the Social Security Committee.

Seminar plans to be carried out later

The Social Security Committee is composed of members from each parliamentary party. In addition, experts are widely involved in the work. The Committee's permanent experts will attend the next meeting. The intention is to arrange the next meeting in the early summer.

- Our original objective was to organise a broad-based meeting this spring and a seminar open to all. Unfortunately, the plan cannot be carried out now because of the emergency conditions. We will organise open seminars when it becomes possible again, says Moisio.

The task of the Social Security Committee is to carry out a structural and functional reform of social security in the long term, to increase information on social security and to engage in social dialogue on the values of social security. The Committee will continue its work over this and the next parliamentary term.
