The Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU will hold an informal meeting of the ministers responsible for demography in Budapest on 18 and 19 November 2024. The meeting will exchange views on the basis of background documents prepared by the presidency. No decisions will be made at the informal meeting. Director General Annakaisa Iivari will represent Finland at the meeting.

Two discussions will be held at the meeting, the first about intergenerational solidarity and the second about supporting young people on the threshold of independent living. The presidency has asked the Member States questions related to both discussions.

Finland endorses a comprehensive approach to mental health and its integration into all policies. Finland considers it important to facilitate the continuity and sustainability of people's careers at different ages and life stages, and people’s ability to extend their careers beyond retirement age. In addition, Finland considers young people’s participation important, along with mainstreaming the youth dimension across policy sectors. Finland also seeks to strengthen the structures for young people's participation in all policy areas, ensuring intergenerational discussion and a demographic perspective.
