Finland, Sweden and Norway enhance their cooperation to improve military mobility

On 30 April 2024, Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne, Norwegian Minister of Transport Jon-Ivar Nygård and Swedish Minister of Infrastructure Andreas Carlson signed a joint statement on developing the transport system.

The countries agreed to enhance and deepen their cooperation in transport system planning in order to promote cross-border projects. The ministers aim to develop cross-border transport corridors so that they can increase resilience effectively and support military mobility between the countries.

“We agree with Sweden and Norway that we must take the changed security situation into account in developing the transport systems in our countries. We will enhance our cooperation so that our entire transport system can serve the needs of military mobility as well as possible,” says Minister Ranne.

“While well-functioning infrastructure is a vital element of security of supply and military defence capability, it also serves all transport users,” says Minister Ranne. 

The ministers followed NATO's Immediate Response 2024 exercise in Narvik, Norway, on 29 and 30 April 2024.
