Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne says that, as a rule, data cable damage should always be taken seriously.

"It is important that we stay calm and find out what has happened. When we know, we can take appropriate action. In order to investigate these situations, it is important that the authorities and cable companies can work closely together. Finland has sound practices for managing such incidents, and our authorities are very good at cooperating with each other. This time, both incidents seem to have been caused by construction work, which can sometimes damage cables," says Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne.

The most recent disruption in telecommunications became public after a fibre optic cable owned by a Swedish digital infrastructure company, GlobalConnect, was damaged on Monday 2 December 2024.
