United Nations Field Operations Security Management Programme is open for studies - Anyone can learn the roles of UN actors in the field
The objective of United Nations Field Operations Security Management Programme (UNFOSMP) is to equip military, police, and civilian personnel with the necessary skills for managing security-related interactions and collaborations among various elements of UN Field Operations and other UN entities.
UNFOSMP consists of three courses: Foundation, Basic and Advanced Courses
- Foundation Course is open for anyone in PVMoodle learning system all year around.
- Basic Course applications must be sent to FINCENT after successful completion of the Foundation Course by 12 June 2024.
- Learners who successfully complete the Basic Course are eligible to continue studies in the Advanced Course in September 2024.
The aim of Foundation Course is to describe the nature of the security environment and the framework of UN Peace Operations and UN presence in the field. It is a self-paced online course conducted on the PVMoodle platform. It is free of charge and available for anyone interested in knowing what is the roles UN and different UN entities in the field.
The aim of Basic Course is to describe the challenges and opportunities for interaction within UN Security Management System between different components for improved Security Risk Management Measures in a UN Field Operations context. It is an instructor-led online course conducted on the PVMoodle platform via the Zoom video conferencing application. Learners will be selected through the application process. The next Basic Course will be in September. For being eligible to apply to Basic Course, you need to successfully complete UNFOSMP Foundation Course. Applying period ends on 12 June 2024.
The aim of Advanced Course is to apply UN Security Management System practices to interact with different components in a UN Field Operations context. It is an instructor-led in-house course supported by the PVMoodle platform. Successful completion of Basic Course is a pre-requisite to Advanced Course. Advanced Course will be at UN Global Service Center, Brindisi-Italy in September.

More than 1130 learners have successfully completed UNFOSMP Foundation Course this year. During the Foundation Course they have gained a comprehensive knowledge of what is the operational environment and roles of UN Peacekeepers and other UN entities, such as UN Special Political Missions, UN Country Teams, Agencies, Funds and Programmes, in the field.
Since having this knowledge, selected learners could develop their capabilities and skills in Basic and Advanced Course for improved security-related interaction with different actors in the field.
Now you can study these topics in UNFOSMP. The Foundation Course is open for anyone interested in, even without previous UN or any other experience. If you are interested in learning the operational environment and roles of UN actors only, you can do it in Foundation Course without expectations to continue in Basic and Advanced Courses. If you would like to continue the studies, you can apply to Basic and Advanced Courses by 12 June 2024.
