Government condemns the acts of violence in Turku
The Finnish Government convened on Friday evening due to the events in Turku. The Government expresses its deepest condolences to the families and friends of the deceased and injured, and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
“The act is utterly deplorable and an exceptionally serious violent offence in the Finnish context – it is deeply shocking for us all,” says Prime Minister Juha Sipilä.
In its meeting, the Government received a briefing on the event and progress of investigation. “I thank the police and other authorities for their professional and swift action. The perpetrator was arrested very quickly,” says Sipilä.
The Government has carefully followed the situation from its start. The state leadership has been in close contact and receives continuous updates from the police. The police will provide information on the progress of investigation again tomorrow morning.
