Seppo Määttä, Doctor of Science (Economics), appointed Director General of the Government Strategy Department at the Prime Minister’s Office
On Thursday 24 January 2019, the Government appointed Seppo Määttä, Doctor of Science (Economics), as the Director General of the Government Strategy Department at the Prime Minister’s Office. Määttä will take up his post as the Director General on 4 February 2019 for a term of five years.
Määttä holds a Doctorate in Economics and a Master’s degree in Administrative Sciences. He moves to his new post from Broad Scope Management Consulting where he has served as a partner and the Chairman of the Board of Directors. Määttä has previously worked as the Project Manager of the project establishing the University of the Arts Helsinki; Managing Director of Talent Partners Public Consulting; Advisor to the Management and Project Manager at the Ministry of Finance; and Advisor to the Secretariat of the Nordic Council of Ministers. Määttä has extensive and broad-ranging leadership experience and an understanding of the practices and development in central government administration.
The Government Strategy Department is responsible for long-term social policy planning and the Government’s analysis, assessment and research activities. It prepares the Government’s action plan and reports on Government policy, and also serves as secretariat for the Government's strategy sessions and meetings of permanent secretaries. The Director General manages the Department’s operations.
