President and Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discuss EU assistance operation in support of Ukraine, international law issues related to the war of aggression, and negotiations on a defence cooperation agreement between Finland and the United States

On Thursday 19 January, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy decided that Finland will participate in the European Union Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine) with a maximum of 50 soldiers serving in training and advisory tasks.

The President and the Ministerial Committee discussed the negotiations on a defence cooperation agreement between Finland and the United States, Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine and the security situation in Europe. 

In addition, the President and the Ministerial Committee received an update on international law issues related to Russia’s illegal war of aggression in Ukraine and on the implementation of international sanctions.
