Prime Minister Marin meets with United States Senators
Today, on 16 May, Prime Minister Sanna Marin met with a delegation of United States Senators led by Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
The delegation also included Senators John Barrasso, Susan Collins and John Cornyn. The meeting took place in Parliament, where the Senators listened to the debate and met with Speaker of Parliament Matti Vanhanen. Minister of Defence Antti Kaikkonen also attended the meeting.
The meeting focused on Finland’s application for NATO membership, which has been proposed by the President of the Republic and the Government and is currently being discussed in Parliament based on the Government’s report. The changed security environment following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was also an important topic of discussion.
The discussion highlighted how NATO membership would strengthen the security of Finland and the entire Alliance.
