Prime Minister Sanna Marin will attend the special meeting of the European Council in Brussels on 1–2 October. At the request of Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, Prime Minister Marin will also represent him in matters discussed at the meeting, as Löfven is unable to attend.

The EU leaders will meet in Brussels to discuss the single market, industrial policy and the digital transformation, along with external relations, particularly with Turkey and China. The situation in Belarus and the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Navalny will also be on the agenda. In addition, the meeting will provide an opportunity to take stock of the situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

The meeting was originally scheduled for 24–25 September, but it was postponed by a week due to the European Council President’s possible exposure to COVID-19.
