Minister of Finance Riikka Purra will participate in the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Washington DC on 15–17 April. The main themes for the week of meetings are the impact of the conflict in the Middle East on the global economy and creating jobs and growth in developing economies.

“The geopolitical situation and global economy are on everyone’s minds. Amid increasing instability, our support for Ukraine is more important than ever,” Minister Purra said.

International Monetary and Financial Committee to discuss impact of the Middle East conflict

The International Monetary and Financial Committee will discuss the state of the global economy and the effects of the conflict in the Middle East on a weaker growth outlook and faster inflation.

The Nordic-Baltic Constituency continues to show strong support for Ukraine and emphasises the importance of multilateral cooperation in addressing global challenges.

Development Committee to once again discuss employment

The World Bank-IMF Joint Development Committee will focus on the World Bank's job creation programme. Creating jobs to increase economic wellbeing and social stability in developing countries is seen as a key driver of growth.

Finland, along with the Nordic countries and Baltic States, supports the work of the World Bank to create and develop the quality of jobs and to develop the operating environment.

At the Spring Meetings, Minister Purra will also participate in a high-level meeting on Ukraine, a meeting of the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action and a ministerial meeting of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
