EU4Health Programme to strengthen European Health Union with EUR 752.4 million
The European Commission has adopted the EU4Health work programme for 2024. The programme aims to deliver the key priorities of EU health policy as part of the European Health Union.
With a total budget of EUR 752.4 million for 2024, the EU4Health Programme will boost the development of the European Health Union and address important health-related issues across the EU. These issues include increasing the EU’s crisis preparedness through the European Health Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA) and the capacity to respond to challenges such as those caused by Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. The budget will also cover the rollout of key digital initiatives, such as the European Health Data Space (EHDS).
The 2024 budget will also strengthen the EU’s resilience to cross-border health threats and help implement the Pharmaceutical Strategy for Europe and Europe's Beating Cancer Plan. In addition, it will support new policy initiatives related to mental health, global health and the development of medicinal products.
Call for funding applications in Finland
The Commission will publish a timetable for calls for funding under the EU4Health Programme in early 2024 at the latest. The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health will organise an online event on the EU4Health work programme when the timetable for calls for funding has been established. Finland, together with its EU partners, has started to participate more in calls for funding under the Programme. This way Finland has received EU funding and introduced its own best practices to other countries. The aim is to continue this upward trend in 2024.
