On 5 March 2026, the Government appointed Anna-Mari Ahonen, M.Sc. (Architecture), as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
Since April 2022, Ahonen has worked as Mayor of the Tampere Region. She has previously served as Mayor of the Regional Council of Häme, leader of the Helsinki-Hämeenlinna-Tampere growth corridor project and Chief Executive of the municipality of Janakkala.
The Permanent Secretary directs, develops and monitors the work of the Ministry ensuring that its duties are performed effectively.
Ahonen was appointed as Permanent Secretary for a fixed term, from 16 March 2026 to 15 March 2026.
