Finland’s Cyber Security Strategy to be revised under the leadership of the National Cyber Security Director
On 8 March 2024, the Prime Minister’s Office set up a project to develop an operating model for government security management. As part of the project, a sub-group was established for preparing a revision of the Cyber Security Strategy.
The task of the sub-group is based on the Programme of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s Government, according to which the Government will revise Finland’s Cyber Security Strategy to respond to the changed operating environment.
The sub-group will be chaired by National Cyber Security Director Rauli Paananen. The vice-chair will be Director of IT Management Unit Mikko Soikkeli from the Ministry of Defence.
The Strategy will be prepared in broad-based cooperation with different participants in society.
Next steps?
In addition to the Government Programme, requirements for the Cyber Security Strategy are set by the updated EU Directive on measures for a high common level of cybersecurity across the Union (NIS2). According to the Directive, the Strategy must be in force starting on 18 October 2024.
The term of the working group is from 8 March 2024 to 31 October 2024.
