Finland has been active in responding to Ukraine’s need for assistance. Finland has delivered more than 100 vehicles to Ukraine through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. The latest consignment of 16 vehicles was delivered during the first weeks of February. Finland has also delivered more than 400 truckloads of civilian material assistance to Ukraine through the EU mechanism.

Since the start of this year, Finland has sent Ukraine generators, ambulances, fire engines and hospital supplies, among other assistance. At the turn of the year, Finland helped Ukraine by procuring and delivering ready-meal packages to the Ukrainian authorities.

Ukraine needs urgent assistance in maintaining its energy infrastructure and other critical infrastructure, healthcare, rescue services, civil defence and the functioning of roads and telecommunications. The three main areas of Finland’s assistance through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism have been energy infrastructure, medical equipment and supplies (e.g. ventilators and personal protective equipment) and rescue services equipment and supplies (e.g. fire fighting foams and armoured containers).

The Laptops for Ukraine campaign collects ICT devices

Finland is part of the Europe-wide Laptops for Ukraine campaign that collects ICT devices and gives them a new life in the hands of Ukrainian students, teachers or nurses, for example. In Finland, the campaign is run by the Ministry of the Interior in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Confederation of Finnish Industries, Technology Industries of Finland and the partnership network of Finnish rescue services.

Materiel assistance helps keep society running

Civilian material assistance plays a key role in maintaining the resilience of the Ukrainian society and the operational capacity of Ukrainian authorities. Ukraine’s need for material assistance continues to be great and diverse. Finland will continue to support Ukraine by delivering material assistance and by other means.

The Ministry of the Interior channels donations from all sectors of society to Ukraine through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. This enables companies, government agencies, organisations, municipalities or wellbeing services counties to give their support to Ukraine.  And everyone can offer their help through civil society organisations.
