EU to ban products made with forced labour – Regulation now in force
The Regulation, which will become applicable at the end of 2027, prohibits products made with forced labour from being sold on the EU market.
The Regulation entered into force on 13 December 2024 and will become applicable three years from that date, on 14 December 2027. Under the Regulation, Member States will be required to lay down provisions on the competent national authority and the penalties for non-compliance. The national implementation of the Regulation will begin in early 2025 under the leadership of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.
The goal of the Regulation is to prevent products made with forced labour from entering the EU market. The ban will also apply to exports from the EU market. The Regulation will apply to all companies, regardless of their legal form and the scope of their activities, as well as to all products produced in the EU and imported from elsewhere.
