The Ministerial Meeting of the International Energy Agency (IEA) will be held in Paris on 18–19 February 2026. At the meeting, energy ministers from around the world will assess the latest developments in the energy market and energy policy and the effects thereof on energy security, affordability and sustainability. Finland will be represented by Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala.

“This IEA ministerial meeting is an exceptional chance to outline common solutions to strengthen a sustainable and safe energy system for all. Together with our international partners, we can speed up the energy transition and ensure that decisions in the coming years are based on both technological development and common goals,” Minister Sari Multala says.

The meeting held every two years provides an opportunity to review the achievements of the forum and to discuss key global challenges and possibilities in the energy sector. In addition to the ministers from the Member States, the meeting will be attended by CEOs from the energy and other sectors, heads of international organisations and representatives of civil society.

Finland and Germany to sign statement of intent on hydrogen cooperation

In connection with the IEA meeting in Paris, Finland and Germany will sign a statement of intent on further cooperation on hydrogen infrastructure, hydrogen technology development and investments in the hydrogen sector.

The statement will include a common view of Finland and Germany on hydrogen energy collaboration and define future measures and key areas of cooperation. The statement will be signed by Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala on behalf of Finland and Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy Katherina Reiche on behalf of Germany on 18 February.

Multala will also have a bilateral meeting with European Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen. They will exchange views on the EU’s proposed regulation on trans-European transport and energy networks and the proposal to speed up environmental permit procedures to accelerate the green transition.

Her agenda will also include meetings with Ukraine’s Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal and the French Minister for Ecological Transition Monique Barbut.
