Minister of Economic Affairs Lintilä will visit Germany, one of Finland’s most important trading partners, in November. During his visit, the Minister will speak at an event hosted by the German-Finnish Chamber of Commerce and meet with representatives of German and Finnish companies.

Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä will visit Hamburg on 2–3 November 2022. There, he will deliver a keynote speech at a business forum hosted by the German-Finnish Chamber of Commerce. The theme of the event is the Twin Transition, which refers to the digital and green transition.

Germany is one of Finland’s most important trading partners. In 2021, goods exports from Finland to Germany grew by 15.5 per cent, totalling EUR 9.1 billion. Germany’s share of Finland’s total goods exports was 13.3 per cent. Imports, for their part, grew by 16.7 per cent to EUR 12.2 billion.

“It is important to create opportunities to further develop economic relations between Finland and Germany. There are many potential opportunities for cooperation between businesses in the energy and digital sectors. Hydrogen, for example, plays a major role in renewing industry,” says Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä.

In connection with the business forum, the Minister will meet with several representatives of Finnish companies. Topics of the meetings will include the companies’ exports and opportunities for international cooperation, skills and competencies, digitalisation, and the transition of industry to a sustainable circular economy.

The current energy situation in Europe will be an important theme of the visit. While in Hamburg, Minister Lintilä will meet with the city’s Minister of Environment, Climate, Energy and Agriculture, Jens Kerstan. He will also meet with Michael Dammann, CEO of gas company Gasnetz Hamburg GmbH. These meetings will focus on the current energy situation and future plans in the energy sector.
