Minister of Economic Affairs Lintilä to visit India to promote digitalisation and energy exports
India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Finnish companies operating in different sectors have expertise that India’s growing and developing economy needs. There are many opportunities for cooperation between Finland and India, including quantum technology, telecommunications and energy.
Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä and Under-Secretary of State Petri Peltonen will travel to India on 16−21 April 2022 with a Team Finland business delegation. The objective of the visit is to promote the exports of Finnish companies and to strengthen the image of Finland as an attractive destination for Indian companies, experts and tourists. The visit will focus on the themes of quantum technology, telecommunications technology, artificial intelligence and renewable energy.
“Finland has strong expertise in quantum technology, which complements well Indian competences in the sector. The aim is to strengthen the position of Finnish companies in the potentially large Indian market,” Lintilä says.
Both Finland and India have quantum technology ecosystems that operate actively. The agenda includes cooperation meetings between these ecosystems.
This is Lintilä’s first official visit to India. The agenda includes several high-level meetings with both local decision-makers and business representatives. Lintilä will meet India’s ministers responsible for commerce, energy, science and technology, and oil and gas, among others.
Finland and India develop their energy cooperation
Finland and India will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the visit. The aims of closer cooperation relate in particular to energy efficiency, clean and renewable energy, development of electricity generation, and smart and sustainable energy infrastructure.
The strengths of the Finnish energy sector include sustainable and reliable solutions that cover the entire value chain: raw material processing, efficient energy production, biofuels and smart grids. The goal is to improve the position of Finnish companies in India’s public and private sector, for example in biofuel solutions.
About 100 Finnish companies operate in India
The visit will strengthen the countries’ commercial and economic cooperation and the Finnish business networks in India. The companies in the Team Finland business delegation offer solutions to sustainable energy production, quantum technology and telecommunications technology, among other things.
The Business Finland’s delegation of Finnish companies includes: Aalto University, Bluefors, Cargotec, Fortum, Incap Corporation, IQM Finland, QuantrolOx, Nokia, Vexlum, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Wirepas, Wärtsilä and YaiYai.
