Finland is preparing a country pavilion for the next UN Climate Change Conference to be held in Belém, Brazil, from 10 to 21 November 2025. The Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs support the preparation of the pavilion in cooperation with companies, municipalities, universities and non-governmental organisations.

The annual Climate Change Conference is not only the UN’s most important decision-making arena for climate policy but also the world’s largest climate event, which also presents significant opportunities for Finnish companies and organisations. It brings together decision-makers and companies, investors, organisations and researchers working on climate issues from nearly 200 countries.

"I have been impressed with the work of Finnish companies and other entities at the two previous Climate Change Conferences. It is important that Finnish climate solutions are visible at the Climate Change Conferences, which also supports our goals in the negotiations," says Kai Mykkänen, Minister of Climate and the Environment.

"Our aim is to again create a foundation for this cooperation at the next Climate Change Conference to be held in Belém next autumn. The next Climate Change Conference will be important, as the parties to the Paris Agreement will need to announce their new emission reduction targets for the post-2030 period next year."

Expectations are high for the COP30 Climate Conference. Brazil plays an important role in climate change mitigation due to its economic status and natural resources.

"The eyes of the world are on Brazil. The country has held the G20 presidency for the past year, and it will hold the BRICS presidency in 2025. The new year will culminate in the Climate Change Conference held in the Amazon. The World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF), which has Finnish roots, will also be held in Sâo Paulo next May. Brazil holds tremendous business opportunities related to the green transition for Finnish companies, especially in the bioeconomy and the mining and energy industries," says Ambassador Johanna Karanko from the Embassy of Finland in Brazil.

Finland had its first country pavilion at the UN Climate Change Conference held in Dubai in 2023. It provided Finnish companies and organisations with an opportunity to present their climate solutions to the international audience and decision-makers. The Climate Change Conference is an important event for creating visibility, building and deepening networks, and opening up new opportunities. At this year’s COP29 Climate Conference in Baku, companies, organisations and the Ministry of the Environment worked together to promote climate action and organise the Finnish space at the event, which enabled them to gain valuable experience.

The business sector will again play a key role in the implementation of the pavilion project in 2025, as the steering group includes representatives not only from government ministries but also Business Finland, the Climate Leadership Coalition, the Confederation of Finnish Industries, the Finland Chamber of Commerce and Technology Industries of Finland.

"The pavilion gives Finnish organisations a strong voice in the world’s largest annual climate discussion, and it simultaneously strengthens Finland’s country image," says Johanna Jäkälä, Executive Director, Finland Promotion Services, Business Finland.

The project steering group will organise an information event about Finland's COP30 pavilion for Finnish companies and organisations in early 2025.
