Suspected territorial violation by unmanned aerial vehicles in Southeast Finland on Sunday
On Sunday morning, a few low-flying, slow-moving small objects were detected in Finnish airspace both over the maritime area and in Southeast Finland. The Finnish Air Force has responded to the situation with a recognition and identification mission carried out by an F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet. According to current information, one drone has fallen to the ground north of Kouvola and another east of Kouvola. The police have cordoned off the areas for further investigation.
“Drones have strayed into the Finnish territory. We are taking the matter very seriously. The security authorities have responded immediately. The investigation into the incidents will continue and more detailed information will be provided once the information is confirmed,” says Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen.
The Finnish Defence Forces are investigating the incident in cooperation with other authorities. Further information on the matter will be provided by the Defence Forces together with the other authorities.
