There is widespread risk of violence in Egypt, for which reason the Ministry for Foreign Affairs recommends avoiding travel to the country. The Ministry recommends that Finns in the largest urban areas leave the city.

The unrest in the largest cities is also reflected in resort areas. Tourists are urged to remain in resort areas and to avoid independent travel in Egypt. The instructions given by travel agencies and local authorities should be observed.

In Cairo, going to the airport may be dangerous, and shared transports are recommended for that reason. The Finnish Embassy has personnel posted at Cairo Airport to assist Finns if necessary. Finns in Egypt can contact the special telephone line at the Embassy, +20 12 244 4671; in Egypt the number to call is 012 244 4671. The Embassy can also be contacted by email: [email protected]

People travelling independently, in particular, are urged to give their contact information to the Embassy. More precise instructions are available on the Ministry website, http://formin.finland.fi/ministry/matkustus/ilmoitus.

Information is also available on the Embassy website, http://www.finland.org.eg, the Embassy page on Facebook, http://www.facebook.com/pages/Suomen-suurlahetysto-Kairo/198414566839508, and on Twitter at http://twitter.com/SuomenSLKairo.

The Internet and mobile telephone lines work sporadically and locally. Landline telephones, however, have been working throughout the country.

In Finland, the telephone number at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs to contact for travel enquiries is 0800 04444.

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has today revised its travel bulletin for Egypt; more detailed information is available there. http://formin.finland.fi/public/default.aspx?nodeid=68812&contentlan=1&culture=fi-FI
