The Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union will meet in Brussels on 15 July. State Secretary Pasi Rajala will represent Finland at the meeting.

The Council will continue its discussions on Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.

“The constant bombardment of Ukrainian cities shows that President Putin has no interest in genuine peace talks. The European Union must keep supporting Ukraine and maintain economic pressure on Russia so that the peace process can finally move forward,” says State Secretary Pasi Rajala.

The Council will also continue its discussions on the situation in the Middle East.

“The cycle of military escalation in the Middle East must be broken. The EU needs to support negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza without delay. Long-term security in the region cannot be achieved without political solutions,” says Rajala.

The Council will also address the current situation in Georgia, as well as developments in the Mediterranean and the Union for the Mediterranean. In the margins of the Council, a ministerial meeting will be held between the EU and its Southern Neighbourhood partners, along with an informal breakfast meeting with the Foreign Minister of Moldova.
